Two useful words that answer different questions
Quick answer: opaque describes whether the finished garment prevents seeing through it, while lined describes construction—an additional inner textile layer has been added. A garment can be fully opaque and unlined. A lined garment can behave differently from the same outer fabric used alone.
For online modest-fashion shopping, treating those words as interchangeable can lead to poor decisions.
What “fully opaque” means in a product specification
When Hazal Studios describes a garment as fully opaque, it is a product-level coverage statement: the finished garment is intended to provide non-sheer coverage in normal wear. It is not a laboratory light-transmittance percentage, because Hazal does not currently publish such a measurement.
Opacity depends on the finished textile and garment—not just the fibre name. Yarn size, knit or weave density, thickness, colour, finishing, stretch and how the fabric sits on the body can all affect whether a textile appears sheer.
What “lined” means
A lining is a separate inner layer incorporated into the garment construction. It may be used for coverage, drape, comfort against the skin, structure, finishing or a combination of those reasons.
That definition matters because lined does not automatically mean warmer by a fixed amount, just as unlined does not automatically mean cooler. A direct Hazal example: a garment with a verified lining
In the Lolita Two Piece Maxi Set, the current specification explicitly describes the A-line maxi skirt as fully lined. That is a construction fact. It does not mean Hazal has measured an exact temperature difference between Lolita and an unlined skirt.

Why photographs alone are not enough
Online images are affected by lighting, exposure, background, screen settings and how many fabric layers overlap in a pose. A dark garment may look opaque in a photograph without the brand having stated opacity. A pale garment can also provide substantial coverage through density, construction or lining.
This is why the written product specification is more useful than guessing from colour or a single photograph.
Does fibre content tell you whether a garment is opaque?
No. A label such as viscose, polyamide, polyester or cotton tells you the fibre family, not the final amount of light transmission. A thin, open or highly stretched textile can behave very differently from a dense construction made from the same fibre family.

Does lining change drape?

When might an unlined opaque garment be useful?
